The husband and wife team practiced together until Ann's retirement in 2015. Today, Michael is the sole operator of the firm, aided by legal assistants Donna Dodds and Courtney Kinowski. Donna has been with the practice since 1996. The firm is located in Mount Pleasant and serves clients throughout South Carolina. Michael has been chosen by his pee... rs to be included in Best Lawyers in America in criminal defense every year since 1997. He has been rated AV Preeminent*, the highest rating possible, under Martindale-Hubbell's peer review rating system for the past 20 years. He has been selected for inclusion in South Carolina Super Lawyers list, a distinction limited to the top 5 percent of lawyers in the state. The majority of the firm's cases are referrals from other law firms. Michael is a Vietnam veteran, serving in Military Intelligence from 1969 until 1971. He has served as a faculty member at the Trial Practice Institute for the National Criminal Defense College and as an adjunct political science professor for The Citadel. He was also an administrative law judge for the South Carolina Department of Labor, and heard and decided occupational health and safety charges brought by the Department against employers.
