Stewart Museum

Founded in 1955 by Montreal's businessman and philanthropist David Macdonald Stewart, the Stewart Museum is a private history museum located in St. Helen's Island outstanding heritage site, in parc Jean-Drapeau. For over 60 years, the Museum continues its role to preserve, promote and disseminate Québec heritage, from the discovery of the New World... to the creation of Canada. Through its rich collections including remarkable documents such as old maps and various archival documents and scientific instruments, rare books and weapons , the Stewart Museum recalls the great figures, events and life themes daily from our history. These precious objects testify to the influence of European civilization on the history of New France and North America. The Museum is housed in the Arsenal of the British military depot built by the British between 1820 and 1824. The renovated facilities and completely revamped exhibition in 2011 come together in the Museum space that features a four-storey steel and glass tower and a lookout that affords visitors a view of the entire military depot and a panorama of Montreal.Read More
