Shepard Jackson Irving was born on October 12th, 2011. ?In March of 2012 at the age of 5 months, Shep acquired an intestinal blockage that led to surgery to remove the blockage. ?As a result of this surgery, a diagnosis of CF was suggested. ?Follow up tests did in fact confirm a positive diagnosis of CF. CF creates a daily battle to fight bacteria that can lead to lung infections as well as digestive challenges. ?The thick mucus buildup in the lungs of those with CF creates an environment for bacteria to attach and grow. ?Daily therapies including percussion chest therapy, as well as a large pill regiment is never ending. Steps for Shep will continue to raise money and awareness in efforts to fund research at the CF Foundation, as well as assist CF patients with daily struggles associated with this disease.
