STC Silicon Valley

STC Silicon Valley Chapter (SVC) began in early 1958 as the Golden Gate Chapter of the Technical Publishing Society with around 35 members. Early speakers included Anthony Boucher, noted Science Fiction writer, editor and book reviewer, and Dr. William Pemberton, who along with S. I. Hayakawa, was an early proponent of general semantics. STC record... s indicate it became the El Camino Chapter in November 1976, and then the Silicon Valley Chapter in June 1983. STC-SVC received a Chapter of Excellence Award for 2001-2002, the Societys Pacesetter Award for its Mentor Directory in 2003 and Community Of Distinction Award in 2007. The Northern California STC chapters offer an annual writing competition. Visit the Touchstone website to find out about the next competition. Monthly chapter meetings are generally held on the third Monday of each month. Most meetings begin with dinner and networking at 6:00 PM, followed by a formal presentation at approximately 7:00 PM. Occasionally, STC-SV hosts informal networking meetings called a schmooze; they do not have a formal presentation. Our meetings are open to all interested individuals. STC membership is not required and reservations (in most cases) are not required, either. In-person meetings are usually held at the Santa Clara IHOP , located at 4200 Great America Parkway in Santa Clara.
