Staton Greenberg Gallery

Staton - Greenberg Gallery is pleased to present selected artists' photogravures produced by Working Theory Press. The press, located in Portland, OR, was founded by Russell Dodd. Working Theory produces contemporary fine art photogravure prints as well as presenting photogravures from the Roy Stryker Collection. Stryker headed the Farm Security Ad... ministration's (FSA) historical division, which created an extensive visual document of the United States following the Great Depression. Some of the medium's iconic images came from this era and this project; Working Theory Press has produced gravures of Dorothea Lange's "Migrant Mother" and Walker Evans' "Graveyard, Easton Pennsylvania," among others. The gravures are made directly from the original photographs in Stryker's collection. Photogravures are a type of handmade intaglio printing that presses ink into paper to reproduce a photographic image. It's history begins in the mid-19th century, and the processes that Working Theory Press uses are rooted in this rich tradition. Working Theory Press photogravure prints have been collected by the George Eastman House, International Museum of Photography, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and the Portland Art Museum in Portland, Oregon.Read More
