Starbuck Whitetails began in 1996 as Cross Timbers Whitetails, founded by Rod Heltzel in Jacksboro, Texas. His initial purchase of pure South Texas deer from Tim Brown included the foundation of our herd, South Texas legendary breeder Starbuck. Rod was passionate about growing giant pure South Texas deer that were naturally EHD resistant and could... not just live, but thrive in Texas. The herd was purchased from Rod in 2008, and in 2013, moved to the Wieser family ranch, Bent Tree Farm in China Spring, Texas. Starbuck Whitetails has maintained the pure South Texas breeding passion for 6 years and improved efficiency by adding state of the art AI handling facility and working pens without a misting system.
