Stalyhill Junior School

Stalyhill Junior School was built in 1968 by Cheshire County Council. The school opened as a primary school and remained so until 1980 when the Infant School opened. The two schools separated because numbers had grown from 120 to over 400. Many mobiles were brought to the site during the 1970's to house the growing population and the last delapidat... ed one was removed in 2001. The school colours were taken from the Cheshire County Council logo which sports a gold wheatsheaf on a royal blue background. Tameside M.B.C. took responsibility for the Stalybridge area following Local Government reorganisation in 1974. Our motto, 'Only my best is good enough for me' was coined by a former pupil in the 1980's. He is characatured in the library mural piloting an aeroplane towing the motto on a swirling banner. By the front entrance to school is a dry stone wall, built in 1993 to celebrate the schools 25th birthday. In spring you will be greeted by the 2000 daffodils we planted to celebrate the millennium...we think they look beautiful! They also inspired the theme of our school web site. We are a two form entry school and have eight classes from year 3 up to year 6. One teacher has responsibility for each class and provides the majority of their teaching. However, we have many specialist teachers who visit our school to deliver lessons in music, ICT, modern languages, PE and games, to name but a few!
