St. Paul Surgeons has been providing comprehensive surgical care for the morbidly obese for over 30 years. Dr. John Alden, one of St. Paul Surgeons' founding partners, was a pioneer in the field of bariatric surgery. Through the years, Dr. James LaFave and Dr. Philemon Roy also provided bariatric surgery for many people. Currently, two of our physicians specialize in bariatric surgery. Dr. William Rupp, who joined the practice in 1985, has a long standing interest in treating the morbidly obese, dating back to his training at the University of Minnesota. He is recognized as a leading expert in bariatric surgery and has performed thousands of operations in this area. Dr. Peter Kelly joined the practice in 1991 and has helped in the care of bariatric patients since that time. Since 2002, he has devoted a large share of his practice to the management of patients seeking weight loss surgery. He has performed hundreds of successful operations in that time. We offer a complete program that includes extensive pre-surgical assessment and education, and solid support following surgery - critical to helping patients achieve their goals of better health, increased self-esteem and improved quality of life.
