St Andrews Primary School

St. Andrews Primary School with an enrolment of 90 children serves the local community on the rural fringe of the metropolitan area some forty-two kilometres north east of the City of Melbourne. The school is able to trace its' origins back to 1858 when it opened at the "Caledonia Diggings Tent School". The name of the school later changed to Queen... stown State School and in 1954 to St. Andrews State School. Nestled among the gum trees on the bank of the Diamond Creek, the school was rebuilt on its' current site in 1984. The active involvement of the local community ensured a functional and aesthetically pleasing structure was built. The school provides a comprehensive curriculum in English, Mathematics, Health, Physical Education, Science, Technology, Studies of Society and the Environment, The Arts and Design/Technology. To actively support these curriculum areas enrichment areas are provided such as Life Education, Swimming, Camping, Health and Human Relations activities, Junior School Council, Tournament of Minds, Perceptual Motor Program, and Parent Information programs. Computers are integrated into the classroom program, with each teaching and learning area having a network of computers available to students, teachers and parents. The school is connected to the Internet and has its' own Website. The school is an integral part of the St. Andrews community and shares in the responsibility of community life by actively encouraging community participation in school programs, after-school programs and extra-curricular activities. The after-school program draws participants from a wide area (with students ranging from primary school age to adults) and demonstrates the school's ability to meet the community needs in response to isolation from some facilities.
