About Spire Preston
Spire was founded in 1998 by a group of parents with sons or daughters who have a learning disability. All of the parents were concerned about what the future held for their sons and daughters once they were no longer able to care for them. With advice and assistance from various bodies the parents successfully formed a group to become a not-for-profit charitable organisation aiming to be a high quality service provider of care and support to adults who have a learning disability in Preston and the surrounding district. In 1999 Spire received a substantial sum of money from a successful National Lottery charities bid. This money was used to set up an administrative office at Preston Business Centre on Watling Street Road in 2000. Spire began supporting just three adults in one supported living house.
