South Lyon Lynx

The South Lyon Lynx organization generally encompasses five teams, one for each grade from 4th through 8th. If insufficient players are available to form a team for a particular grade level, teams may be combined or players may be allowed to play up a grade at the coach's discretion. If enough players are available at a grade level, a second team m... ay be formed for that grade level, at the coach's and board's discretion. Tryouts are held annually in early- to mid-May. Team practices are generally held twice weekly during the season, at South Lyon area elementary and middle schools, as well as the SwishZone in Whitmore Lake. Optional summer practices are held at the SwishZone once per week. During the season, players are encouraged to attend clinics held by area high school coaches and others. Teams and players will be notified in advance of these clinics. Lynx coaches are all volunteers who generously donate their time and talents to the organization. A NOTE ABOUT MULTI SPORT ATHLETES: Research shows that those who are involved in more than one sport are more successful in life. Those that only participate in one sport risk getting burned out they don't typically last for four years in high school. South Lyon Lynx is proud to support and encourage participation in other sports outside of basketball, as long as there is open communication with the coaches. We have cagers who also play softball, soccer, football & volleyball. We have girls who split their time on the court with time in the pool, the dance studio, the cross country course and the track. The combination of multiple skill sets make for a better all-around athlete. Playing multiple sports can help kids build important life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and responsibility. Generally speaking, the in-season sport takes priority, so if there is a conflict between a basketball game and a softball game in November, basketball takes priority.
