About Sound Experience
Sound Experience was founded in 1988 by Barbara Wyatt and Morely Horder. Horder had served as captain of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater on New York's Hudson River. Founded by the legendary folk singer Pete Seeger, the Clearwater organization and its ship have played a significant role in the cleanup and protection of the Hudson River waterway. It was Barbara and Morely's vision that Sound Experience and the historic schooner Adventuress could play the same role for Puget Sound. Since its inception, non-profit Sound Experience has been educating youth and adults throughout Puget Sound with environmental education and leadership programs aboard the historic schooner Adventuress. In over 20 years, more than 50,000 people (mostly youth) have sailed on Adventuress, exploring the ecology and history of Puget Sound. In 1989, Adventuress was named a National Historic Landmark.
