Soucy is a private corporation founded by Mr. Gilles Soucy in 1967. With over 1,700 employees throughout 12 facilities located in North America and Asia, Soucy conceptualizes and manufactures various components for leading manufacturers of motorsport, industrial, agricultural and defense vehicles. Mr. Gilles Soucy, a farmer by trade, a mechanic and... snowmobile enthusiast, founds his first company. He markets his first tracks and distributes snowmobile parts in Québec, Ontario and the Maritimes. Mr. Soucys company is incorporated. Gilles Soucy Inc. (GSI) is founded. Following high demand for its products, the number of parts and components included in the product catalogue is increased. Quimpex Limited is founded under the trade name Kimpex. The company, which manufactures and distributes snowmobile tracks, later became Soucy International Inc. GSI diversifies its business to balance the seasonal sales of snowmobile parts. The company begins manufacturing products for the marine industry. GSI becomes the exclusive distributor of Suzuki outboard motors for Eastern Canada. GSI buys Les Accessoires Trans-Cycle Ltd. and at the same time enlarges its product lines. GSI acquires Plastiques Prospect Inc., which is then known as Soucy Plastiques Inc. The company specializes in the manufacture of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) parts, such as idlers and sprockets for the snowmobile industry. Mr. Gilles Soucy founds Koutou Ltd. in order to meet the Soucy Groups needs for snowmobile products. Koutou Ltd. specializes in sewn and upholstered products and in molded polyurethane and integral skin parts. Mr. Soucy sells GSI, Kimpex USA and Les Accessoires Trans-Cycle to a group of American investors. The company, renamed Kimpex, becomes a select partner. In collaboration with Cascades and Roy-Nat, Soucy buys 50% of Techno, a company that specializes in the preparation of rubber compounds and polyethylene-based color concentrates.
