SOLUtion is an early-stage life science company based in Philadelphia, PA developing more patient friendly drug delivery systems for reconstitutable drugs. We specifically aim to improve the administration efficacy of life-saving injectable medication with our TwistJect auto-injector for people living with adrenal insufficiency including Addisons D... isease and Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia. Adrenal crisis is a life-threatening medical emergency, associated with a high mortality unless it is appropriately recognized and early treatment is rendered. Nearly 144 million people worldwide are adrenal insufficient (AI). Despite it being a treatable condition for almost 70 years, failure of adequate preventive measures or delayed treatment has often led to unnecessary deaths. 1,2 The current standard of care in times of adrenal crisis includes the Act-o-vial®. This medical packaging requires an average of twelve user steps for injection, and was designed to be utilized by trained medical personnel, not a layperson or an individual living with adrenal insufficiency. Literally everything. I carry the needle and meds in a toothpaste case, with name and printed instructions including additional medical details (allergies, medicines, blood types, emergency contact). My son is deathly allergic to nuts. He has an Epi pen. No syringes. No vials and there are AMPLE supplies of it. No issues with trying to find a pharmacy that has it. AND there are bags designed to easily hold it and label it clearly. Nothing like that for me. It's too many steps to do and process when in an adrenal crisis. This is life threatening if I'm by myself or with strangers or those who aren't familiar. I've also had issues with bubbles in the vial and couldn't inject because of that. The fact that the injection has to be given with a needle severely limits the number of people who can actually administer it in an emergency. Its time consuming as well.
