Smith Broughton Auctioneers origin dates way back to 1977 when Broughton Broughton & Co was founded by Max Broughton and based in the Perth suburb of Bayswater. By 1981, the company had grown significantly with a focus on providing asset valuation and sales services to the mining & resources sectors. It was at this time Max Broughton employed Darre... n Smith as a trainee valuer. The company continued to grow and expanded its services offering to the finance and government sectors. In 1991 Darren Smith left the company and founded DW Smith & Sons Auctioneers & Valuers based in the Perth suburb of Midland a smaller niche business with a clear focus on the mining & resources sectors. Both companies continued to grow and prosper and in 1997 Darren & Max agreed to again join forces and amalgamate the two companies to become Smith Broughton Auctioneers operating from their Midland facility as is the case to this day. The company today is still wholly owned by Darren Smith & Max Broughton and is under the direction of Darren Smith in his capacity as Managing Director.
