Smartway commenced operation in Victoria in 1996, originally operated by Smartway Finance Pty Ltd. Smartway quickly established itself as a small but innovative financier specialising in the I.T. and business equipment sectors. It formed strong alliances with a number of computer retailers and specialist resellers including Retravision (Victoria).... It also operated a successful leasing finance brokerage business for larger transactions. The high expense associated with developing the technical infrastructure required for further expansion into retail sector led to a decision in 2002 to join forces with Australia's major retail leasing specialist Flexirent Capital Pty Ltd. This decision has given Smartway customers and its resellers a tremendous boost in service delivery and financial security. Also, whilst Smartway was originally a broker, it is now able to operate as a principal thereby ensuring better and fairer upgrade and end of term arrangements. A significant re-branding program was undertaken and the "new look" Smartway brand was launched in October 2002. Smartway will be a significant player in the computer market with a national partnership with Retravision (excluding SA) and other important independent retailers and resellers soon to be announced. Smartway now has access to the very latest web-based lease management systems for faster decision-making for applicants and better asset and transaction tracking for its customers and resellers.
