While pursuing her Integrated Sciences degree at UBC in 2013, Daman was continuously contacted by many parents regarding tutoring for their children. However, due to her intense academic and non-academic commitments, she was unable to aid students in their school studies. Parents were having a difficult time finding a place where they could send th... eir children for academic, extracurricular and career guidance at an affordable cost. With time, Daman noticed the serious need for a facility where students could go and clear their confusions academically and in other ways as well. After noticing the severity of the issue, she decided to take action and attempted to relieve the issue. She soon realized there are multiple factors as to why students arent able to do well in school on their own. Teachers have to deal with a class of 30 students, and sometimes it can be difficult to give personal attention to all. At times, students may find the content theyre learning not interesting or dry. Sometimes, the students are too nervous to approach their teachers for help. So its important to identify the issue that the student is struggling with, address it and do something about it, says Daman. In order to help students in such matters, Daman gathered a team of young, intelligent and motivated college/university students, some being friends, who believed in her vision, and started a tutoring company called Smart Kookie Tutorials in January 2014. Smart Kookie Tutorials (SKT) is an educational facility, run by college and university students, that aids elementary, high school and university students in academics, at an extremely affordable cost.
