Sheena Cameron and Louise Dempsey are the co-authors of The Writing Book, The Oral Language Book, and The Reading Book. Sheena is an experienced teacher who has taught in New Zealand, the UK and the United States. She has taught at primary, intermediate and tertiary levels. Sheena currently facilitates literacy workshops both in New Zealand and int... ernationally and is the author of The Reading Activity Handbook, (2004), The Display and Publishing Handbook (2006) and Teaching Reading Comprehension Strategies (2009). Louise is an experienced teacher, consultant and trainer who has worked in New Zealand and the UK. She facilitates literacy training and school-based professional learning in New Zealand and Australia. She has completed a range of writing projects for NZ and English publishers, including the Department of Education in the UK. We are both experienced primary teachers with a passion for literacy. We met in 2012 when we both worked as facilitators in the beginning teacher programme at Kohia Education Centre at the Faculty of Education at Auckland University. A professional relationship developed into a friendship and eventually a business. With previous experience in resource development, we saw a need to create a practical resource that would support teachers to teach writing. S & L Publishing was born and with the support and advice from many generous people, The Writing Book was published. Since then the business has grown. We have published two more books and established our consultancy business, The Literacy Place, which provides professional learning workshops, and school-based support and resources.
