Rollin 253 was born in January of 2012 when the previous tenant, Wheelz Skate Arena (2009-2011) closed down. A few of the employees of Wheelz convinced the landlord, Bruce Bodine, that they could make the business work and wanted to save roller skating in Tacoma. Bruce agreed and helped launch the new entity: Rollin 253 Skate & Community Center. Th... e rink grew exponentially over the next several years, boosted by the visionary and popular Summer Camp program. In 2019, the rink was put up for sale after the owners decided to focus on their successful storage and warehouse business, and they searched for buyers with roller rink industry experience and a family-friendly vision As of April 2019 Rollin 253 is owned and managed by Christina and Brett Stang and will be re-named Skateworld Tacoma after updates and renovations finish! The Stangs bring decades of skating rink knowledge to the Tacoma area, including over 20 years each in the skating industry. Christina is a former Rink Hockey world team member and a current member of Angel City Derby! Brett is a former member of Team USA Mens Roller Derby and also a former national jam skating champion! They currently manage the family roller rink, Skateworld San Diego with their two kids and two dogs.
