Sisterhood

In Sisterhood: the Womens Movement in Pittsburgh is a community based oral history project documenting the history of the womens movement in the Pittsburgh region, 1967-1989. We are collecting 70 oral histories on digital video to provide a rich new source of regional and national history. We use an oral history methodology and record one to four i... nterviews for each of the oral histories. The oral history project focuses on the local roots of the national womens movement. It features local grassroots activists who toiled to bring about systemic change for women here and elsewhere. We expect to obtain valuable insights about the strategies they employed and the organizations they created in pursuit of social justice. Their stories will be a testament to the role of social movements in a democratic society. They will also serve as a lasting tribute to these honorable women and men, allowing them to continue to inspire civic action and foster regional pride among future generations.Read More
