Shining Stars

Shining Stars, has evolved over twenty years from a group of local men wanting to hold a Christmas Party for Children with different needs AND their siblings and families into the Charity it is today. The two survivors from this group are Mike Howell, the current Chairman and Nev Goward the incumbent Secretary. Of the original group of children, ar... ound 30, the group has grown to well over 200 and a Summer BBQ event is now also held. The Committee running Shining Stars now totals about 10 including former attendees of the party, the former local Mayor, both of Mikes daughters and other very willing volunteers, who are now the driving force behind the organisation. The meetings are held at Nannies house and are often interrupted by her parrot Tickles! It is hoped that charitable status will soon be achieved enabling Shining Stars to fulfill its ambition of making a REAL difference to those in need in the Community. Particularly with regard to the provision of a centre for over 19 year olds who currently do not have suitable provision for their needs. Our vision is that any child within Caerphilly and the surrounding area who experience disadvantages is to be given the same life experiences as everyone else. We also hope to improve the understanding towards disadvantaged children and their families to ensure that they do not suffer additional disadvantages as a result.
