Sheringham Medical Practice

Sheringham Medical Practice is a Training Practice. This means we host Junior Doctors who are at different stages of training to become General Practitioners. Dr Martyn Scott, Dr Simon Downs and Dr Ian Smith are our GP Trainers. Each of these Doctors will be a dedicated Trainer to a GP Trainee, who is generally based with us for 6 or 12 months at a... time. GP Trainees are fully qualified doctors who will have several years of hospital experience before joining a practice for GP training, and some will return to hospital training after their placement with us. During the GP Trainee's time with us they learn about the personal, primary and continuing care of patients and families, and gain a unique understanding of the management of acute, chronic, recurrent and terminal illness in both the surgery and the patient's home together with preventive care and health promotion. He or she learns and works as part of a multi-professional team which includes nurses, health visitors, social workers, administrative staff and receptionists. GP Trainees, like all Doctors, must meet the standards of care, competence and conduct set out by the General Medical Council guidance contained in Good Medical Practice. Sheringham Medical Practice has been a Training Practice for a number of years. During this time we have had to evidence that we meet the standards and criteria set by the GMC who is the overall regulator not only for each doctor on the medial register but also for the delivery of all medical education in the UK, from undergraduate (medical school) through to all levels of specialty training to Completion of Certificate of Training (CCT) or its equivalent. The GMC provides guidance and criteria for training and for trainers in all specialties (Educational and Clinical Supervisors), and requires Deaneries to ensure that these are in place and complied with.
