About Shepherds
The Shepherds of Youth, located in Florham Park, New Jersey was founded in 1984 by a group of individuals who wanted to give their financial support to the endeavors of the Vocationist Fathers and Sisters. The mission of the Vocationists is to recruit individuals who have the calling to serve the poor around the world through education and spiritual guidance in order to break the cycle of poverty. Father Justin Russolillo founded the Vocationists in Naples, Italy in 1920. They came to Newark in 1962 at the request of Thomas Boland, Archbishop of Newark, to help meet the needs of immigrants arriving everyday. Upon arriving in the United States, Father Mario Muccitelli led the Vocationists. Founding members of the Shepherds of Youth have supported Father Mario and the Vocationists since their arrival, especially founding board member, Larry Paragano, who traces his family's support of The Society of the Divine Vocations back to Italy.
