At the beginning of 2002, TNO ( https://www.tno.nl/en ) ( a Dutch not for profit knowledge organization) started research into supporting the elderly through smart sensors. The aim of the study was to allow vulnerable eld... erly people to retain control of their own lives for as long as possible. Sensara was established in 2013 as a spin-off from the TNO study. The objective was to valorize the knowledge gained to make products for the healthcare market: independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing. After its inception in 2013, Sensara received the first major customer in the Netherlands in 2014: Futura Zorg. Futura Zorg still makes active use of SensaraCare to this day. Sensara was soon able to record a major milestone. In January 2016, 100,000 beddays were monitored with Sensara. After the successful results in the Netherlands, Sensara made the first international step in 2017. In December 2017, the Belgian healthcare institution Armonea became a Sensara customer. Armonea still makes active use of SensaraCare to this day. At the beginning of October 2018, RiverWoods Exeter started the implementation of the Sensara system, with the aim of improving the quality of life, safety and privacy of the residents.
