Semipower Systems Inc., originally founded in San Jose, California to develop new motor drive packaging and control technologies, has been growing at a rapid rate. Semipower has established itself as a technology-leading supplier of very small, flexible form factor high performance AC and brushless DC motor drives in the 1-25 Hp range. The company... was founded on the basis of two technologies or competencies: advanced power hybrid module design, and high performance motor control software expertise. Semipower has a mission of delivering modular drive solutions allowing our customers to lower total system cost through small flexible form factors and a wide range of high performance control without sensors. Building on our competencies, Semipower has built and shipped more than 35,000 fully packaged drives to Cutler- Hammer, Sumitomo, and Warner Electric. These leading industrial system and component product companies have marketed and sold these drives under their own name and through their own sales and distribution channels. The product has been sold into applications as diverse as cement plants, building heating and ventilation equipment, food preparation, municipal water plants, and industrial machinery, having seen the gamut of tough environments. In 1998, Semipower introduced the DriveBlok series, ADM (AC Induction) and BDM (Brushless DC) modules expressly designed for OEM machine builders' equipment. This is truly the "first drive in a power module product ever offered." Depending on the OEM application, an engineer can choose the DriveBlok module alone or add available options, including a CapBlok bus capacitor assembly and/or a variety of companion heatsinks. The option of building one's own final drive solution allows the OEM to eliminate unwanted capabilities like a keypad or even the traditional heatsink in some applications.
