Schenley High School

Schenley High School is located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, which is a cultural center of the city. Schenley High School is surrounded by four colleges and universities all within walking distance: University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie-Mellon University, Carlow College, and Chatham College. In addition to the university district in Oakland, the Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History, Carnegie Music Hall and Carnegie Library, the Phipps Conservatory, five major hospitals and clinics, Schenley Park with its splendid athletic facilities (ice rink, swimming pool, tennis courts and golf course) offers the people of Pittsburgh many satisfying opportunities for learning and enjoyment. Schenley High School is a comprehensive high school for grades 9-12 located in the center of this thriving academic and civic community. Its ideal location facilitates many cultural activities of community organizations to be held in the building. There are approximately 1300 students who come from wide socio-economic levels and highly diversified ethnic and racial backgrounds. These students come to Schenley High School from four major communities of Pittsburgh: Oakland, Hill District, Bloomfield and Lawrenceville. While each community is primarily residential with a business community in each district, the Lawrenceville community contains light and heavy industrial manufacturing. In addition to the local student body, approximately one-half of the students at Schenley High School come from all parts of the city of Pittsburgh for its unique International Studies/International Baccalaureate and Technological Studies magnets, the Schenley Spartan Classics, the Center for Advanced Studies and the Schenley-Pittsburgh Ballet Theater collaborative program.
