Indiana has the second-highest abuse rate in the nation, according to a report by the Childrens Bureau of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services... . Nearly 19 children out of every 1,000 children in the state of Indiana will experience some from of abuse or neglect each year twice the national average. One child suffering abuse, let alone thousands, is too many. Every day, my staff comes to work in an effort to put themselves out of a job all in an effort to prevent abuse and neglect. At SCAN (Stop Child Abuse and Neglect), Scan believes that every child deserves to be safe loved and nurtured. SCANs mission is to protect children, prepare parents, strengthen families and educate Scan's community to Stop Child Abuse and Neglect. At SCAN, Scan works with families in their time of greatest need. Often times, child abuse or neglect has taken place in the home, and children are afraid, scared to trust the people who are supposed to love them.
