Sauganash Elementary School

Sauganash School, located in the Forest Glen community at 6000 N. Kilpatrick and 4700 W. Peterson, is a K-8 neighborhood elementary school. In 1999, a four-classroom modular unit and an up-graded playground were added. Currently the building is undergoing construction to become ADA compliant. We have established partnerships with the following neig... hborhood businesses that support our school in many ways: CCH, Republic Bank, LaSalle Bank, Leider Greenhouses, Kraft Foods, and the Peterson/Pulaski Chamber of Commerce. We also have partnerships with Northeastern Illinois University, DePaul University, National-Lewis University, Eastern University, North Park University, and The Art Institute of Chicago. Our partnerships with local universities provide an opportunity for students to volunteer, student-teach, and exchange best practices. Other partnerships offer gifted programs for our students, free educational classes for the teachers and field trip grants. Our student body consists of 350 students: 63.3% White, non-Hispanic; 17.6% Hispanic; 1.2% Black, non-Hispanic; 17.3% Asia/Pacific Islander. There are more than 20 languages spoken at Sauganash. The student-classroom teacher ratio is 23:1 . ur staff consists of 35 members, 18 being classroom teachers, 2 special education teachers, 1 physical education teacher, 1 bi-lingual teacher and an art teacher. Our attendance rate is 95.3% and we have 0% truancy. Our mobility rate is 8.5%. We have less than 1% retention rate, a 95.5% graduation rate, 0% expulsions, and a 0% dropout rate. Our report card pick up parent participation is 99%. Enrichment programs are provided in the areas of Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Writing. Two teachers assist our students with special needs. We have an ESL teacher that works with 16.4% of our student population. Our after-school program includes enrichment and remedial opportunities.
