About Salter Housewares
Salter Housewares is based in Tonbridge, Kent and has operations in 100 countries worldwide, including the United States and Canada. Salter was founded in the late 1700s in the village of Bilston, England when Richard Salter, a spring maker, began making pocket steelyards, a scale similar to the fisherman's scale of today. By 1825 his nephew George Salter had taken over the company, which became known as George Salter & Co. and later established a large manufacturing site in West Bromwich. In 1897, Salter invented the UK's first personal weight scale and the company's product line was later expanded to include irons, mincers, potato chippers, coin-operated machines and, another 'first' for the United Kingdom, the typewriter. Today, the company manufactures a variety of kitchen and bath scales as well as kitchen housewares products and the Salter name has become synonymous with quality and innovation.Explore more
