SAHACHART SETHAKIT CO., LTD. was found in 1958 , intended to be active primarily in the timber trade. The company started working and trading in teak. The sawmill-quality logs were both supplied to our own sawmill in Ang-thong Province and sold locally. The higher grade, or veneer, logs were generally exported to foreign countries. By the mid 1960'... s the timber and veneer trades were declining and, therefore, we decided to expand the scope of our Company into mining. At the time this was a very courageous decision because, apart from tin for which Thailand is justly well known, almost no other minerals were produced on a large commercial scale in Thailand. We, however, foresaw a considerable demand for minerals both on the domestic market and aboard. Therefore, in 1964 we opened a gypsum mine on the concession no 609/1391 in Nakorn Sawan Provinces, 280 kilometers to the North of Bangkok. We secured, and maintain to this day , to supply gypsum to two out of three cement manufactures in Thailand and since 1973 have in Thailand and since 1973 have been a major exporter. Nine Gypsum Mining Concessions have been granted to Sahachart Sethakit Co.,Ltd. covering about 300 Acres with proven deposits of over 100 million tons of Gypsum still to be extracted. At present we produce monthly 100,000-150,000 MT of Gypsum at various sizes as per customers' requirement i.e., under 10 mm., under 2 inches and under 6 inches.
