Safe Easy Giving

Our mission is to provide a safe, easy way for all people, no matter where they live, Growing-up in the city, it was not uncommon to encounter people in need living on the streets. Since I I would invariably ask why dont you just give them the money, what if they dont like mayo on their sandwich? Although I eventually understood why food was better... than money, I never got used to how awful it felt on those occasions when we simply did not have time to stop to buy the person a snack. One afternoon in the summer of 2015, a dozen donuts and a mile walk home with my mom turned into an idea that would make giving to the homeless so much easier. asking for money. We were in a rush so we offered her one of our donuts. Her excitement was so home. Although we walked in the door with an empty box, we came home with something far better: It is so easy to help people when you have something other than cash on hand. Since carrying donuts everywhere proved to be a little messy, it occurred to me that a gift card to Dunkin' Donuts would be just as good, if not better. Over the next two years, my siblings and I committed to giving half of everything we received to the homeless gift card fund and my parents agreed to match it. The cards were a huge success but we never seemed to have enough. When I shared my frustration with my mom, she challenged me to find a way to raise funds from outside of our family. Always up for a challenge, I drafted a primitive business plan, hired an internet attorney and my siblings who were willing to work for free, and formed Safe Easy Giving (SEG), a non-profit dedicated to making the act of feeding the homeless safe and easy.
