Rye Hill Preserves

Funny how a small gesture can have a significant effect on your life. What started as a one off helping on a stall at a local food fair became a more regular weekend activity. As time went on I got more involved prepped ingredients, labelling jars, foraging hedgerows and making conserves. I loved the simplicity, freedom and creativity, banter with... customers and other stall holders was a refreshing change from my office 9-5. Life has moved on and Rye Hill Preserves is the result of whats been learnt. Our first year was spent foraging, sourcing produce, tweaking recipes, designing labels etc. and the less exciting but equally important paperwork. Each recipe has been tried and tested by friends and family, we use the traditional open pan method and cook in small batches to retain flavour. We grow gooseberries, blackcurrants, raspberries, strawberries, apples, cherries and plum, we are often donated surplus homegrown fruit and vegetables from friends and neighbours. We naturally love and appreciate the countryside and strive to be as environmentally friendly as possible. We have only essential plastic reusable items in the kitchen and no disposable plastic on our stall, we use hessian, wooden crates and metal trays for display and paper bags for your purchases. We are delighted if you have your own bag but encourage you to take a paper bag and reuse, compost or recycle at home, we love paper and cant survive without trees either.
