Rutherglen Primary School is located in Murray Street Rutherglen, a proud town in a proud community. Rutherglen has a population of approximately 2500 people and our school caters for 236 students (169 families) from Prep - Grade 6. We are at the centre of a well known wine district and the town reflects this culture within the shops and businesses... . Our school's vision is to develop 'Life Long Learners' that have the ability to contribute to society in a positive manner. We aim to create students that are: resilient, resourceful, reflective and display reciprocity skills to others when working in a variety of situations. The school strives to develop links to local organizations and community groups to ensure that students feel a connection to local events. As students become more efficient learners this connection broadens to more global issues involving society and the environment. Curriculum is targeted to the needs of students, with staff developing positive relationships built on a shared responsibility to the learning. Numeracy and Literacy are the core elements and we believe that it is vital for students to gain solid skills in these areas. We also strive to provide engaging curriculum that challenges students to develop themselves as learners, setting learning goals and then reflecting on their own progress using a variety of tools. Our school models the four areas of Sustainability, making significant savings in the areas of water, waste, and energy. We have also increased our bio-diversity gardens by 100%. Student learning is linked to these areas with students implementing the inquiry learning process as they discover they can make a difference at school, at home and into the community.
