Run for the Troops 5K

Run for the Troops MA, D.B.A. Run for the Troops 5K, is a tax exempt 501c(3) not-for-profit corporation located in Andover, MA. This organization was initially formed to help Homes for our Troops build homes engineered for the specific unique needs of our severely injured soldiers. Each April, we hold a 5K Walk/Run and a community Dinner & Silent A... uction to honor our veterans. In addition to funds these events raise awareness of the needs of our soldiers. The public often forgets the hard human cost for a few to maintain freedom for us all. In addition to raising funds to benefit Homes for Our Troops, our mission has expanded to support veteran services provided byIronstone Farms, Brides Across AmericaandVeterans Northeast Outreach Center. We are grateful for the support from our community, generous race and dinner sponsorship and silent auction donors. Thank you to all who have helped support our mission and brought us to this - our 8th year. I needed to run for a Boston Marathon's charity program since it was nearly impossible to continue to qualify. Since Homes for our Troops could provide me with a number if I raised enough for them because they were an official beneficiary. The idea of a fun run and pancake breakfast seemed like a good way to raise money. The events were very successful in raising the required amount. So after discussing the event with several people about the idea of continuing of raising money and awareness for Homes for our Troops, Run for the Troops 5K was created. Since many members my family are l veterans I decided to dedicated the event to them. My mother is a Marine and my father served 30 years in the Navy. Other members that served are Scott Larson and Glen Pennington, Charles Pennington, Craig Pennington, and Hank Jorgensen. My desire to continue to honor our veterans and support them is fueled by the knowledge of the sacrifices of my family and all of our veterans.
