Tom Boyer is the founding director of Rootmasters Pty Ltd. In the mid 1980's, after working in the earth moving, excavation, construction and development industries for more than 30 years, Tom recognized the need for a specialized tree root pruning service in Australia. He then designed and built a revolutionary root-pruning machine (Australian Pat... ent PN8263 and New Zealand Patent 314292) that cuts more cleanly and deeply than any other method. Rootmasters Pty Ltd was then born in 1989. While Tom still maintains his involvement with the research and development of Rootmasters, concentrating on mechanical and physical methods of controlling the growth of tree roots and the movement of moisture through the soil profile, he is now semi-retired and lives in Port Fairy. Jenny Boyer, Tom's daughter has been Rootmasters' Managing Director since 1995. She has a Bachelor of Art with Honors and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Science (Horticulture (Arboriculture)) from The University of Melbourne, Burnley Campus. Jenny's a founding member of the International Society of Arboriculture Australia Chapter and a Technical Committee Member for Standards Australia. Jenny is also currently studying for a Master of Forest Science by Research at The University of Melbourne. Her research is looking at the response of established amenity trees to root pruning and crown pruning. Jenny has an ongoing commitment to innovation, seeking alternative long-term solutions for our customers and the continual improvement of a total tree root management service. While continuing to develop relationships and partnerships with the arboricultural industry, landscape managers and engineers, Jenny also works with structural, chemical and plastics engineers in the design and development of new barrier and pavement materials.
