Robert Atchison

Robert Atchison was born in London and studied music from a young age. His teachers included Sheila Nelson, Bronsilaw Gimpel at the Royal Northern College of Music, and Emmanuel Hurwitz at the Royal Academy of Music. In 1983 he made his concerto debut at the Queen Elizabeth Hall playing the Beethoven concerto, and in 1984 at the Barbican playing th... e Vivaldi Four Seasons. He joined the Philharmonia Orchestra in 1984 and remained there until 1990. From 1991 to 1997 he was a member of all three orchestras of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, and was co-principal to Iona Brown. Currently he is Violinist with the critically acclaimed London Piano Trio and has given concerto performances and recitals all around the world including the USA, South America, Europe and South East Asia. Robert is in demand as a freelance orchestral leader. Since 1999, he has been leader of the West End Disney production of The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre in London. Teaching: is a big part of his journey now. He adjudicates regularly at the Guildhall School and the Royal Academy of Music and has been a mentor of the Orchestra of Filipino Youth in the Philippines. He is also a jury member at amongst others The International Chamber Music Competition Città di Pinerolo e Torino Italy.
