REV Birmingham

Launched in October 2015 with a five-year commitment from sponsors, Zyp BikeShare , an initiative of REV Birmingham , ushered in a new era of public transportation options to the city of Birmingham. Upon its launch, Zyp became the first public bike-sharing system in the state of Alabama, and the first system overall to utilize electric pedal assist... technology in North America. Servicing downtown Birmingham and its surrounding neighborhoods with hundreds of green bikes at more than 40 stations, Zyp made trips around town convenient, fast and fun for downtown residents and visitors. LAST DAY TO RIDE ZYPDECEMBER 31, 2019 In five years (that Zyp-ed by!), Zyps system logged: Together, we proved that not only does bikeshare work in Birmingham but it is embraced by Birmingham! Seriouslylike, so much so that privately owned bike and scooter companies began showing strong interest in coming to our vibrant city. Thanks to our users, sponsors and partners, the Zyp project closed on a successful note in December 2019, just beyond its 5-year mark. We are grateful to Zyps sponsors Regions , Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama , Alabama Power Foundation , Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex , Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham and the City of Birmingham and to our planning partners at the Regional Planning Commission for making the first electric-assist bikeshare system in North America possible in Birmingham. In 2020, you can expect a new private vendor to enter the Birmingham market with more shared-use mobility options. The last day to bike with Zyp is December 31, 2019.
