At Renaissance Studio were as proud of our history as much as were proud of our products. Were part of the fabric of the local heritage, and as one of only a handful of hand made trimming companies left in the UK, and taking a very local and specialised craft onwards into the new millennium. Were based in a Mill that has more than played its part i... n the growth and history of the town and local trade. Years ago the thrum of hundreds of lace making looms filled the air as high quality lace was produced and shipped to every corner of the globe. Its impossible to not feel inspired by such a legacy. We had the skills and knowledge to start producing fine hand made trimmings with the help of Suzanne Campion, herself a master designer and weaver, who learned her skills in the traditional weaving town of Kidderminster. Due to the lack of interest in weaving by hand on a commercial scale, the college decided to close the weaving department, and we were fortunate to be able to purchase a number of beautiful hand looms, some of which are now over 40 years old. During our early days, yarn would be sent to an outside company to twist the bullion twine for us to turn into fine trimmings in our dedicated studio. Eventually, this company made the decision to move its production overseas and we were left with no alternative either to buy from abroad, or design and make our own ropewalk. Passionate about English Heritage, Suzanne wasted no time in designing her own, and with the help of a local company, who are still maintaining Lace machines world-wide, soon established our own, making us completely self sufficient. Suzanne later retired to look after her family, but not before she made sure that Renaissance would continue producing beautiful hand made trimmings to exceptionally high standards.
