Rekindle

Rekindle was started in Newtown, Powys in 1997 by a group of people who had all experienced mental health problems within their own families. The aim was to give relief to those suffering from mental illness with therapy and targeted activities. In 2002 Rekindle ran a successful pilot project, Small Steps, funded by Comic Relief specifically to hel... p young people aged 16 to 25. This age group being particularly vulnerable and at risk of suicide, with other complex needs. In 2014 it was decided to focus entirely on the Small Steps Project with two new staff, Diane Williams who is a qualified Mental Health Nurse, and Kemal Keeble an experienced recovery practitioner. These two have transformed the service into what it is today. Rekindle now just runs the Small Steps Project from 11 to 12 Market Street Newtown. The board of trustees are closely involved with the management of the service. Mental illness is common: 1 in 4 people will suffer from it at some time in their life, but it still carries a stigma and does not have the same fundraising appeal as other causes. The work of the Rekindle Small Steps project fills a major gap in service provision. We are providing an example of what can be achieved with modest personal input. We are a small and flexible charity that is ideal to work with the statutory services to fill the gaps that they cannot provide. Provision of this sort of treatment is highly cost effective, because it helps to get people out of a dependency culture where many would otherwise remain.Read More
