Regional Economic Solutions (RES) was formed in 2013 born of the common desire of its business Directors to bring about real economic change for Indigenous Australians. RES is dedicated to bridging the economic and social gap between Indigenous Australians, businesses and the government. Our aim is to foster an environment of collaboration between... projects in the energy and resources sector, and work with government, businesses and Indigenous Australians to support social, public policy and economic outcomes that are sustainable, ethical and responsible. In many areas, particularly those rich in energy resources, economic development for Indigenous Australians could be achieved by more effectively utilising the relationships between Indigenous communities and energy and resource companies. The rapid development of the energy and resources industry in Australia over the last 10 years has provided an important way forward for Indigenous people, giving traditional owner groups an economic base that did not previously exist. To date, however, the partnerships between Indigenous Australians and energy and resource companies have been unable to fully unlock the economic potential for Indigenous Australians. RES' Directors have the background and the skills to understand both sides, and to bridge the gap between the Corporate and the Cultural governance practices, which underpin the current divide between industry and the Indigenous community. As an impartial party, RES can play a role in maximising the economic foundation of the traditional owners groups, the existing relationship with proponents and the development in the energy and resource sector to build real economic development for Indigenous people.
