Redeemer Lutheran

Redeemer Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, is a congregation of the Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod (LCMS) and is committed to the doctrine of the Lutheran Church as presented in The Book of Concord. We are a congregation uniquely devoted to liturgical worship, to catechesis, and to the centrality of the Holy Communion and other Sacraments in the life of... the Christian. We were founded as an English-speaking congregation in 1892. At the time the predominant language of Lutheran churches in Fort Wayne was German. Redeemers members wanted to hold to the doctrinal heritage of their fathers but be fully American in culture and language and thus welcome people who were not of German ancestry. Originally, Redeemer was located in downtown Fort Wayne near what is now the elevated railroad. By the early 1900s the Congregation outgrew its rented facilities. The parcel of land on the corner of Harrison and Rudisill was purchased and a building built. While still within the city, the congregation now had room to grow and a neighborhood around it. Over the years the building was expanded, neighboring lots were purchased, and other improvements were made. Redeemer is a member congregation of the Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod, belonging to the English District. It exists to serve and glorify God; to spread His kingdom by the preaching of His Word and administration of His Sacraments; to demonstrate Gods love and compassion to the needy and downtrodden with physical and spiritual help; to build one another up in faith and love; and to provide religious instruction concerning the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
