About Reach One
Im Serita. Native New Yorker, also Founder & Executive Director of Reach One, Inc. Reach One is a non-profit organization dedicated to changing the lives of NYC youth from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a focus on higher education. I started Reach One with one simple concept in mind. Being from S. Jamaica Queens, looking back now I realize, had it not been for that one blessing, that one opportunity, that one person believing in you, all of our lives could be very different. What changed for me was getting an education. Currently there are over 508,000 kids in NYC living at or below the poverty level. 43% of children in New York City are from single-parent families. Speaking with teens over the summer, I realized many of them are bright and aspire to do great things however, finances are a main concern.
