Punjab Schools

Many children in rural India suffer from a lack of educational facilities with schools in a state of disrepair and some with no school buildings at all. Whilst some cities prosper rural life continues unaffected by the apparent affluence of some parts of the country. The consequence is that rural children suffer. Initially, attention centred around... the village school in Seham. We have now completed rebuild or refurbishment of schools in Seham, Singh pur donar, Awanchaharmi, Chauhar, Kang Sahbu, Bajua Khurd and Sianiwal. Our work commenced in in 2001 following a visit I made to the village of Seham, with my friend Balvir Singh, a native of that village, situated near to the city of Jalandhar in the state of Punjab in north west India. In the beginning the support was ad hoc but as the work grew the charity was registered as The Village Seham School Appeal in March 2006 with four Trustees. The following objectives are contained within the Constitution: To advance the education of the children in the Punjab. To advance the education of local teaching staff in modern teaching methods. The intention is to form associations between Punjab and English schools in order to raise awareness of students on both continents. Given the spread of our work in May 2011 the charity website was re launched under the Punjab Schools banner. It is important to emphasize that none of the monies raised are spent on administration, Website maintenance or travel costs, all of which are borne by individuals a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.
