Punahou Carnival

On the North Shore of Oahu sits the beautiful Turtle Bay Resort. Monday, July 4th, 2016 they host the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival starting at 2:30pm and going until about 8:00pm. Naturally, fireworks will follow. What a great place and a great event to bring the family and friends to while celebrating our nations Independence Day! Featured a... rtists include Brother Noland and the Swinging Hawaiians. I recommend arriving early to get good parking and maybe stake out a place on the beach for the fireworks. The hotel has restaurants and beverages so if you dont feel like packing a picnic just head on out there and enjoy being served! Also, the hotel might have rooms if you feel like spending the night and the condos next door called Kuilima Estates can be found on sites such as VRBO and Airbnb if you need a kitchen. The condos come up for sale and run in the high 300 thousands to low 500 thousands to buy one. Cant beat the gorgeous location! Dont forget your sunscreen and towels! Aloha! If you happen to be in Waikiki tonight Jake Shimabukuro is playing at the new Blue Note theatre at the Outrigger Waikiki Hotel. That showroom is where the Society of Seven used to perform and where I first saw Bruno Mars get up on stage with his dad (one of the Seven). Bruno wore a miniature Elvis costume and had his hair done in a pompadour style and he really belted out the songs like he was born to sing. Ahhh, the good ole days. I feel honored to have witnesses his humble beginnings in showbiz. Back to Jake. He has been one of Hawaiis favorite Ukulele players for years and he tours frequently and has been on the Today Show, Good Morning America, and several night time talk shows. Tickets run $25-$45 and the show starts at 6:30pm so you have time to start with a drink at Dukes ocean front restaurant and bar prior to the show. Aloha! Its that time of the year again.
