This page is dedicated to Fire, Police, and Special Teams to share information on Public Safety Unmanned aerial systems (UAS) programs for Emergency Services. Welcome to Public Safety UAV webpage dedicated to all public safety professionals who have or our looking to develop a Public Safety UAS program in their departments. The hope is to share the... experience of others as well as lessons learned. The use of UAS (Drones) in public safety is in its infancy but the potential of this new technology will shape the face of emergency services for years to come. Starting a program within your jurisdiction will pose a lot of challenges and questions. The FAA guidelines and regulations being your biggest barrier but with the new FAA Part 107 Small unmanned aircraft regulation this is becoming easier and is a very exiting time to start a UAS program. Public safety will still need to obtain at least Remote Pilot License under to new 107 guidelines for all its pilots in command (PIC) and file for waivers for night flights, flights over people ect. It is also advised that you continue or start the process to get a Certificate of Authorization (COA) for your organization as flying as a public entity places you under the public aircraft portion of the FAA regs and allows you much more flexibility to be able to operate without the need to obtain a waiver if your in regulated airpace or after dark.. We look to promote this technology in a safe responsible way. A skeptical public needs to be educated on how this technology better serves them, legal questions will need to be answered to address and protect the public privacy concerns.
