PRP Construction, headquartered in Indiantown, is a minority women-owned firm involved in site development and road construction. The firm's services include providing drainage, underground utilities and storm water solutions, which are critical in a low-lying state like Florida, in addition to building roads, retention ponds and installing pipes,... junction boxes, inlets and curbs. The firm was founded in 2011 by Peggy Sheltra. Previous high profile projects of PRP's include a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers assignment to construct box culverts (concrete structures that direct water traffic) for the C-44 Everglades Restoration Project in western Martin County. The restoration project is aimed at capturing Lake Okeechobee basin runoff - along 12,000-plus acres - and improving the salinity of that water before it flows into the St. Lucie estuary system and impacts 4,000 plant and animal species. PRP completed its part of the project in 2013. The firm also was responsible for development of the highly trafficked Florida Turnpike ramps at the interchanges of both PGA Boulevard and Indiantown Road, two of Palm Beach County's busiest interchanges. As for a women's business operating in the male-dominated industry of road and site development, added Ms. Sheltra, "Either you're all in, or not at all, and at PRP Construction we're all in. There were challenges I had to overcome as a women leading a company in this industry, but I realized that I could do it." Florida Commerce Park is located off State Road 710 in Indiantown. Amenities bounding the 100-acre park include a hotel, restaurants and retail and medical facilities.
