Premier Coal operates a major open cut coal mine in Collie, Western Australia, and provides power generation fuel for the States' south-west integrated electricity grid. Based near Collie, a town of over 9,000 people, Premier Coal is an important contributor to the local economy providing employment for over 300 people and supporting a wide range of regional industries and community-based activities. Premier Coal's proud mining history started in 1950 as Western Collieries and since that time the company has supplied approximately 90 million tonnes of coal. Operating both open cut and underground mines for many years, the Premier operation is now one consolidated open cut mine with reserves to operate into the future. This state-of-the-art mine is building a strong future in energy supply for Western Australians.
