Pishwanton Wood is a site for environmental education, research and holistic practice, offering opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to renew and deepen their relationship with nature. We explore ways of integrating agriculture, horticulture, woodland management and conservation activities to create a practical demonstration of sustai... nable land use. Our philosophy is also reflected in the beautiful organic architecture, providing unique spaces for workshops, classes, and retreats. The wood consists of 60 acres (27 ha) of varied plant and animal habitat. It is situated in a heavily glaciated landscape at the foot of the Lammermuir Hills in South-East Scotland, and has belonged to the Life Science Trust since 1996. It is not just a question of what we do, but how we do it that brings art and wholeness into our lives. Our holistic approach can be experienced in our four activity centres: the Life Science Centre for Goethean research and education; the Ecology Centre for Biodynamic cultivation and biodiversity; the Craft Centre for rural crafts and artistic explorations of place, and the Social Centre exploring living in harmony with Nature (onsite co-housing is currently being explored).
