Petway Mills is a local accounting practice located in Central North Carolina. Petway Mills's Firm provides attestation and assurance services (audits, reviews, agreed-upon procedures, write-up or compilations), tax preparation, peer review and management advisory services that are focused toward not-for-profit organizations, governmental units and... closely held businesses. PETWAY MILLS & PEARSON, PA, is the outgrowth of a practice that Robert E. Privette opened in Zebulon, North Carolina in 1976. Six years later, Leslie W. Merritt, Jr., CPA entered into a partnership with Mr. Privette. Leslie W. Merritt Jr. started his own firm in Zebulon in 1988. C. Briggs Petway, Jr., joined the Firm in 1986 and became a partner in 1994. As a result of a merger, partners Roger G. Mills, CPA and Henry C. Hockaday, CPA joined the Firm in 1999. In December 2004, Mr. Merritt and Mr. Hockaday retired from the Firm and PETWAY MILLS & PEARSON, PA was formed. Phyllis M. Pearson, CPA became a partner during the reorganization. The Firm has two offices, one in Zebulon and one in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Firm's primary service area stretches from Raleigh, through Zebulon and East Wake County, and on to Wilson. However, the Firm's staff audits governments, charter schools (charter schools are not-for-profit organizations that are required to report as governments by the North Carolina General Assembly) and not-for-profit organizations across the state, literally from the mountains to the coast (from Murphy, Cashiers and Boone in Western North Carolina to Shallotte, Wilmington and Beaufort on the coast).
