Prior to forming PWA, Mr. Petrela held senior posts at leading Bonding Companies, latterly as Bond Superintendent of The Guarantee Company of North America, the oldest Surety in Canada, and one of the largest in the country. At that time, it was commonplace for contractors to deal with generalist insurance brokers for their bonding (usually by defa... ult as they handled the insurances), and there was a lack of specialized bonding brokers available to contractors. Mr. Petrela recognized the value in having a qualified bond broker manage a contractor's bonding affairs, and it was on this premise that he formed PWA. Today, almost 35 years later, the Company holds true to this founding principle. Mr. Petrela was involved in various industry initiatives and trade associations throughout his career, including a Directorship with the Canadian Construction Association. Gregory Petrela took over ownership of PWA in 1998, and is the present day President. The firm has grown steadily under Gregory's leadership, while remaining true to its bonding and service oriented roots. Roy Ferreira, Vice President and Partner, joined PWA in 2004 after 10 years on the underwriting side of the business, where he held underwriting and managerial posts with two leading Bonding Companies. Petrela, Winter & Associates is the leading privately owned bond broker in Canada, and has earned the reputation as the broker of choice amongst bonding companies and informed contractors.
